PECH OSCE

Objective Structured Clinical Examination for PECH

PECH OSCE is designed to test a 3rd year Medical Sciences student's performance and competence in communication, ethics and professionalism. It is a 5 minute station where each candidate's interaction with a simulated patient (an actor) is assessed. For OSCE, students apply the theoretical and practical knowledge they studied over the 3 years they attended medical school. In the weeks leading up to the exam, students meet with tutors on 2 separate occasions for a refresher, called PECH Skills Lab. I teach this refresher to 4 separate groups in a 6 week rotation.

The First Skills Lab Class covers a review of the Doctor-Patient Interview which focuses primarily on the Calgary Cambridge Guide. The Second and final Skills Lab Class covers the practical application of empathy and emotional intelligence.
