This course examined the roles of the Cinematographer and related crew, the camera as a creative tool, photography, formats, exposure, lighting, lenses, composition and editing decisions. It is for these reasons that a mastery of the technical elements of filmmaking is essential to creating compelling images of value, power and beauty - images that function within a film as parts of an integrated whole.
OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Identify the major parts of a motion picture/digital video camera.
- Understand the function of lenses
- Use the camera as a creative tool - film grammar
- Understand the differences between various HD digital video formats/standards
- Learn the roles of the Cinematographer and the related crew.
- Identify and apply the different lighting techniques and styles
- Understand and apply the concepts of composition and camera movement.
- Apply the various production procedures related to cinematography
- Understand the relationship of the image to audio and synchronization
- Understand the principles, procedures and requirement for editing.
- Identify the dynamics of postproduction.
- Prepare and execute and execute an original short film
